Born in Tokyo, Japan, Michiko Ota-Kys has been playing the piano since the age of four.
Specializing at music academy Touhou-Gakuen in piano solo with a secondary emphasis in chamber music performance Ms Ota-Kys received her BA in Music and Performing whilst giving concerts at Tokyo and Chiba. She then continued her studies at the National University of Music in Munich, Germany, attending the master classes of Prof. Gerhard Oppitz where she was awarded her Masters in music.
Ms Ota-Kys participated in master classes and piano competitions in both Europe and Japan and won prizes among them 2nd prize at the U.F.A.M. International competition in Paris, 1998.
Since then Ms Ota-Kys has given concerts in Europe, Japan, USA. As soloist she was invited by orchestras, thus in 2009 by the orchestras in Braşov and Ploieşti, Romania. in 2010 she also performed with the St. Petersburg State Academic Symphonic Orchestra under A. Titov in St. Petersburg, Russia.
While playing the classical piano repertoire Michiko Ota-Kys specializes in piano works of the 20th century and of contemporary composers.
